OUR STORY

We're doing this because we're inspired by working with refugee kids. We've noticed social tension between the refugee and local (host) communities -- whether in Europe, Africa or Asia. One of the best ways to deal with this is to get outside, exercise and play sport.  Why? Because we know how good it feels to go for a walk, hike, swim, skate or surf. The benefits from physical movement are tremendous. Sports is a practical thing we can provide to offset some of the horrors these kids have been through..

THE FOUNDER

Magnus Wolfe Murray

Movement in Refuge was established in 2024 by Magnus Wolfe Murray who vowed to continue the work of Kasha Rigby, his fiancé who was tragically killed in February 2024. They both worked together in Bangladesh, at Cox's Bazar, enabling children to develop their potential by playing sport.

Kasha was an experienced Alpine skier, mountaineer and deeply motivated to give children less fortunate than her an opportunity in life -- and she and Magnus were planning to set up a charity to continue this good work when she was tragically killed in an avalanche in Kosovo. Magnus is continuing her legacy and is building alliances all over the world to make it happen. The charity is registered in the UK under the auspices of Re-Alliance _____ Magnus is from Edinburgh, Scotland, and first got into aid work in 1990 when he went to Romania just after its communist regime fell. He worked in a remote home for disabled children, and then went on to work in Bosnia-Herzegovina during its brutal war. Over the next 30 years he built a reputation as a highly effective manager of large scale aid operations for refugees and displaced people in Africa and Asia. GROUND TEAM

The Sports Trainers

We carry out all our work with local organisations that are near to the refugee camps. This ensures cultural affinity and the long-term sustainability of our sports training programmes. Currently, in 2024, we are working in Bangladesh & Chad. We don't yet have a final agreement with our partner in Chad, but we do have it finalised with our partner in Bangladesh.

The name of our Bangladeshi partner organisation is HAP (Humanitarian Assistance Programme).

COMMS TEAM

& Maisie the dog

Comprised of family & friends, this small communications team runs on a volunteering basis. We love this project and want to see it flourish, I mean who doesn't want to bring love and smiles to potentially millions of displaced children and their families.

For fundraising, we will appeal to individual donors (like you!) and fundraising events. We want to avoid grant funds as that could take us down the road of bureaucracy. Rupert, brother of the founder, has years of experience starting up NGOs, project management, PR, journalism and fundraising. He's working alongside the rest of us with our public relations. I, Luca Wolfe Murray, am 22, and have a background in marketing, website building, strategy and various business work. Now I'm travelling the world and working on this remotely. I decided to help Magnus on this project as it is dear to my heart & I love working in start-ups.

We see a future when refugee kids have the freedom to exercise & compete in sporting competitions. We will dedicate the next 20 years to making it possible for millions of refugee kids to play, grow and flourish.
